Developing SA one community at a time

ROSEBANK – An ex-engineering student’s vision for a better South Africa has become a reality within the Rosebank community.

Admire Kamutimbe (24) would sit in the Rosebank Public Library on most days to study for his exams. “While at the library I would see young people just roaming around and sitting in the park, doing things that would not take their life further in any way. I thought they needed some form of guidance,” he said.

Due to this realisation he founded Develop SA in 2013 and stopped studying in bid to get his organisation to grow and develop within South Africa.

“I want to focus on this for now, I will go back to my studies, but before that, I want to make sure that young people engage in the programmes which are currently on offer at the library,” said Kamutimbe.

He said that exposing the unemployed and the youth to these programmes could result in them finding jobs.

Develop SA is a Rosebank-based organisation which develops, implements and maintains youth and community-building programmes and projects in the form of initiatives, courses and workshops. This equips those not in school and unemployed individuals with skills that will enable them to earn a living, and eventually become contributing members of society.

The organisation’s English courses run over a period of eight weeks. “Lack of literacy remains a serious challenge for a large part of modern South Africa. Our workshops are geared towards assisting people to read and write proper English,” he said.

Develop SA has since seen other organisations partner with it. However, Kamutimbe appeals to anyone with experience to help out with the programmes on offer.

“People who can teach skills, project management, communication, English or really anything that will help our students benefit. I urge you to come and help out. I am really passionate about empowering young people. Please understand that this is what I am determined to do.”
