Wits re-opens tomorrow

JOBURG – The Senior Executive Team of the University of the Witwatersrand and the Students' Representative Council have reached a resolution on a series of proposals put forward yesterday, which means that the university will re-open tomorrow, 28 November.

A statement issued by Wits Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Adam Habib, has notified the public that Wits has agreed to postpone the examinations and that a new examination timetable will be shared with students before the end of the week.

In addition, the university is encouraging all staff and students to fulfill their academic obligations in order to get the academic programme back on track after the trying time faced by all.

They have also put in place a number of security measures to ensure the safety of all who enter the university premises. They aim to station Campus Control at various spots around the university to control access into the university and ensure that lecture venues and other operational spaces remain safe and secure.

The university has agreed to address all outstanding concerns with the student leadership and will be engaging with them in this regard.

Students will return to their scheduled study programmes tomorrow, in hopes that peace will continue on the university premises.
