JOBURG - Craft Coffee is the little known, big flavour coffee cafe situated in Newtown which is sure to blow your mind.
The store was founded by Chris Brown, who is passionate about roasting.
No, we didn’t find singer Chris Brown’s secret hideaway – this Chris Brown is a master of coffee.
“We’ve been roasting for our parent company, The Daily Buzz (a chain of corporate coffee bars), since 2012, and got to the point where it made sense to start up a vertically integrated business that could supply other businesses in the industry with our quality products and services,” Brown explained.
Seasoned in the coffee supplying business, he makes sure to serve his customers with only the best.
“We pride ourselves on sourcing specialty grade coffees that are ethically produced, and the suppliers subscribe to fair trade practices. At the moment, my two favourite coffees are single estate micro lots from Guatemala and a Kenyan Peaberry,” he said.
When asked why they set up shop in Newtown, he replied, “We’re located in a heritage building that just oozes character and suits our artisanal style down to the ground.”
Not to mention that Newtown is such a culturally diverse precinct, filled with hipsters who are bound to love the coffee and delicious eats that are sold at the cafe.
The store has tapped into a portion of the market that has been less explored by cafes other than Double Shot in Braamfontein – Craft Coffee makes the roasting experience interactive.
“[What’s unique about us is] the interactive factory experience you get as you watch and smell the batches of coffee beans being roasted while you sip on your caffeine fix of choice. The fresh and inviting, upcycled decor was created from shipping crates that the machinery arrived in.”
The minimalist decor and aroma of coffee make for a relaxing experience.
