Rosebank community urged to be more vigilant

ROSEBANK - Rosebank police urges the community to keep safe as the festive season draws closer.

With the festive season drawing closer and closer, the Rosebank police have urged the community to be more vigilant and keep their valuables out of sight, especially when on foot.

“I can confirm that there have been various robberies reported in the last few weeks at the station,” said Rosebank police spokesperson, Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe.

He said a number of vehicles were used to commit different robberies over the past few weeks. Mdletshe explained that one of the recent robberies involved three suspects driving a VW Golf 6 GTI. The suspects pulled over their vehicle and stopped a male pedestrian on the corner of Baker Street and Cradock Avenue and stole his cellphone.

Mdletshe also warned of pickpocketing in malls over the festive season, “Don’t ever leave your bag or purse in the trolley. Make sure it is in your hand and next to your body at all times.”

If going on vacation, he advised that community members ensure they inform their security company and, most importantly their neighbours, of their departure. “Your neighbours are the ones who will be able to notice if there is a suspicious car parked in the driveway or if something looks wrong, as they will know you are not home and will inform authorities,” he said.

He stressed the importance of the community members working together with the police to ensure a safe festive season.
