Parkview police arrest security guard

PARKTOWN WEST - Parkview Saps detectives have arrested a security guard that has been on the run for almost a month.

Following a burglary at a school in Parktown West last month, a 27-year-old suspect was arrested by Parkview police detectives on 20 October.

The suspect had been on the run since he allegedly committed the offence. According to Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, spokesperson of Parkview Police Station, he had been on duty at the time, guarding the premises.

“It is alleged that a co-worker heard strange noises in the premises in the early hours of the morning. Upon investigating, he noticed his colleague had gained entry through a broken window into an unauthorised area. The suspect was allegedly clutching a laptop bag at the time,” said Ramovha.

He added that the witness had then pressed the panic button and Armed Response arrived, however, the suspect had already climbed the wall and fled the scene.

Ramovha said that through a tracing operation, the suspect was apprehended in Braamfischerville, Soweto, and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon to a face charge of business burglary.
