Illegal taxi parking discussed at Rosebank CPF meeting

ROSEBANK - Together with Rosebank police, Metro police, ward councillors and other external community members, the Rosebank Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently held their monthly meeting.

Costa Qually, chairperson of the CPF, said the forum discussed issues relevant to the community.

“These meetings are held every month and it is somewhat discouraging to see a limited number of people attend. I urge more community members to get more involved in the meetings and their community,” said Qually.

Rosebank Police Station’s head of visible policing, Captain Gerald Steyn, shared and discussed crime in the area over September.

Steyn said the canine unit had been of great use and highlighted some arrests.

“We need to deal with the illegal taxi parking outside the Kaya FM building on Jan Smuts Avenue. It is causing traffic congestion and noise,” said Rosebank Police Station commander lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender. Govender further asked Metro police to assist with the situation.

While Govender said he thought the meeting was a very fruitful one, he stressed the importance of more community members attending the CPF meetings on a monthly basis.

“We often see community members join the meeting when there is a problem, but after a few months they just stop attending. We really need the community’s full participation.”

The next CPF meeting will take place at 5pm on 12 November in the boardroom at Rosebank Police Station and will be the final meeting for this year.
