UPDATE: Mysterious parcel attached to street pole causes bomb scare on Jan Smuts

ROSEBANK - Rosebank police have confirmed a bomb scare occurred between Bolton and Wells Road earlier today.

UPDATE: 1:20pm –  It turned out to be a pinhole camera hidden inside an empty beer can.

The owner of the can, Ricardo Dafonseca, came forward shortly after and stated that he was using the camera to take photos of a building in the vicinity, which the business he works for owns.

“We are doing an art project,”said Dafonseca.

Rosebank Police stated that Dafonseca would not be arrested and that an inquest docket into the matter has been opened.

INITIAL REPORT: 13 October 2015, 1pm – This after a suspicious-looking parcel was seen attached to a street pole.

“The police were called and responded with the  K9 unit and bomb squad and closed the roads,” said Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, spokesperson for Rosebank Police Station.

The parcel has since been removed by the bomb squad and Rosebank police have confirmed that it was not a bomb. The roads have now been reopened.

No arrests have been made, however, Mdletshe urged anyone who saw the parcel being left there to contact Rosebank police.
