Armed robbers escape after police chase

JOBURG - A Bramley Gardens resident had an unpleasant ordeal on 22 September.

Patrick Bizimana and his brother took his car to get washed in Kew, and on arrival, four armed occupants alighted from a blue VW Polo.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela of Bramley police said, “A gun was pointed at the victim and they demanded he take off his watch and hand over a bag which had an undisclosed amount of cash in it.”

The suspects also took another bag containing a Samsung tablet and drove off. Bizimana followed the vehicle onto Corlett Drive. He saw a Metro police vehicle and asked the officers for their assistance.

“Metro police chased the suspects all the way to Wits University,” said Maphakela, adding that the suspects eventually managed to get away.

“The security guard at the university managed to write down the registration number of the vehicle and spotted that the suspects were wearing blue overalls.”

Bramley police are appealing to the community to notify them if they see a blue VW Polo with registration number DW 55HG GP.
