Donate to Santa Shoebox Project

JOBURG - As the year draws to a close and Christmas time approaches, the Santa Shoebox Project, an initiative by the Lodz2Kidz Trust, is back once again and is rallying the community to get involved.

The project seeks to challenge Gauteng residents to donate 100 000 festive season gifts that will be donated to vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Over the past few years, these gifts of joy were donated to youngsters at orphanages, children’s homes and care centres across the country – even as far as Namibia. To date, the project has donated 456 004 gifts.

This year, the goal is to go beyond this challenge with innovative new initiatives that take ‘giving for good’ beyond the boundaries of the shoebox drive, with the goal of making positive changes in the lives of these children for good.

Last year, additional avenues were introduced to support the main shoebox drive, and these focused on collecting complementary, critical items – necessities for the youth of our nation.

Kind-hearted donors can now also show their support by donating Proudly South African raincoats to children who live in high winter rainfall areas to keep them dry on their way to school every day.

Corporate clients and other benefactors have an opportunity to make a financial donation towards the Santa Shoebox Legacy Fund, created to provide additional support to children’s facilities.

With the first funding received, the Santa Shoebox Project has partnered with the South African Red Cross Society to train caregivers at selected beneficiary organisations in basic first aid.

The local drop-off point is once again at St Columba’s Church on Lurgan Road in Parkview and the dates to drop off the boxes are from 30 October to 1 November.
