Hail of bullets in Craighall Park

CRAIGHALL PARK – Craighall Park residents reported they heard loud gunfire near Jan Smuts Avenue shortly after 8.30pm on 6 October.

“I heard several loud bangs in succession and I couldn’t tell if it was fireworks or gunshots,” said local resident, Graeme Shackleford.

“I also couldn’t tell exactly where is was coming from, but it sounded like it was on Jan Smuts Avenue.”

Chairperson for the Craighall Park Residents’ Association, Ryan Roseveare, confirmed that a shootout took place between a group of suspected robbers and police.

The suspects allegedly shot at police officers who pursued them from a neighbouring suburb. The officers then returned fire.

Further information is unavailable at present, but comment from Parkview Police has been requested.
