Weapons inside Krejcir’s cell pure anarchy – UDM

According to media reports, the Czech fugitive was plotting and planning a prison break.

It was reported that the Department of Correctional Services thwarted escape plans by inmates, which included Krejcir, at Zonderwater Correctional Centre in Cullinan when it raided a number of cells.

The department’s spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela said, “A number of illegal items were discovered.”

One of the Sunday papers reported that among items found in Krejcir’s cell were a pistol, ammunition, a knife, an item that looked like a taser, a pepper spray gun, steel screwdriver blades, 10 cellphones, a memory stick, and a diary which contained the names of witnesses and investigators in his cases.

Following these reports, the UDM called for an end to access to cellphones and dangerous tools inside prisons. Party secretary general, Bongani Msomi said, “We have been calling for stringent security measures in prisons to avoid crimes… [committed] by prisoners while inside which could have be avoided. The access to these weapons and equipment show clearly that police and prison wardens, and everyone else, are not safe; while some of the officials have had a hand in distributing these dangerous tools.”

Msomi asked how prisoners were able to possess such weapons and said, “We have seen… [that] Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir… possessed a number of dangerous weapons, including a 9mm pistol.”

He said Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha, owed the nation an explanation of how Krejcir managed to acquire these.

Msomi added that correctional services’ mission was to provide the best service for a safer South Africa, and that prisons were not all that safe. He also said prisoners seemed to have more rights than anyone else.

“An investigation must take place to catch those responsible for the distribution. They must be brought to book,” Msomi said.
