St John’s pupils excel in music

HOUGHTON - St John's College congratulates some of their top music performers.

After an audition, St John’s College Grade 8 pupils, Matthew Daniels and Andrew Raney, who both play the piano, have been selected to take part in the annual Samro Hubert vd Spuy National Music Competition held in Cape Town in October.

In July and August, St John’s piano department took part in the annual Eisteddfod presented by the Johannesburg chapter of the South African Society for Music Teachers. Students were entered for the piano recital category in which they performed three pieces in public. The adjudicator for this event was Pauline Nossel, a respected pianist.

Raney and Pano Pouroullis, who is in Grade 11, were awarded trophies as the candidates with the best recitals in their year groups.
