Business owner finds burglar on property

JOBURG - The Alexandra Magistrate Court remanded a 25 year old Rosettenville man in custody for a case of forced entry into a Midrand business premise.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court remanded a 25-year-old Rosettenville man in custody for a case of breaking into business premises in Midrand.

The man will reappear in court on 30 September.

The court heard that the man was arrested after the business owner allegedly found him inside the premises on New Road in the early hours of the morning of 31 July.

The legal representative of the company told the court that the previous evening, “… the owner had locked the offices, but on arrival the following morning, he was surprised to find the alarm system deactivated, the front door forced open, and the lock and fire extinguisher damaged.”

The owner is said to have gone to the second floor where he discovered the suspect. It is alleged that when he asked for the man’s identity and what he was doing on the premises, the man ignored him. The court heard that the owner then called his workers and they asked the man to empty his pockets.

He took out a woman’s driver’s licence, passport and bank cards which had been reported stolen.

Police were called to arrest the intruder. The court heard that they found another woman’s driver’s licence and other items which were reported stolen in Hillbrow.
