Five car pile-up in Parkview

PARKVIEW – A taxi collided with four other vehicles shortly before 8am on 18 September, leaving two people seriously injured and trapped within the taxi.

The taxi’s brakes had allegedly failed, according to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Danielle Dooley, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle at the intersection of Jan Smuts Avenue and Lower Park Drive.

“Paramedics found that two people had sustained serious injuries and were trapped in the taxi,” stated Dooley. “They were able to extricate the patients from the vehicle. Both patients were transported to hospital in a stable condition.”

Ten other people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to hospital for further treatment.
