Craft in Hyde Park

HYDE PARK - As Johannesburg gears up to appreciate craft and mastery at the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair which will take place from 9 to 11 October at Hyde Park Corner, the fair hosted a special press launch at the centre.

The launch took place on 1 September and gave members of the media the opportunity to view the finely crafted items which will be exhibited at the fair.

From beautifully fashioned hats to complex and fragrant food, the launch gave all in attendance a taste of what to expect in October.

Curator of the fair, Roberta Thatcher, said that this, its sixth year, will be the best one yet as it has been growing exponentially throughout its existence.

She added that though their fair is restricted by the corner of the Hyde Park Shopping Centre rooftop, they have figured out creative ways to utilise the space with an inclusion of a beer garden.

“I think we have a much more interesting variety of exhibitors this year which will make this the fair’s best year.”

Thatcher added that the fair has added an additional 54 exhibitors since previous years.

Spokesperson for Sanlam, Robert Thompson, said that the partnership with the fair was a very exciting one and local residents could expect some of the best handmade items on 9 to 11 October.
