Ward 73 councillor resigns

JOBURG - As of 1 September, Ward 73 councillor Marcelle Bloom-Ravid is no longer ward 73 councillor.

Ravid resigned her seat on the council and a by-election will be called by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in six weeks’ time starting from 1 September, for the election of a new ward councillor.

Ravid said she had enjoyed serving the residents of the ward immensely and found great satisfaction assisting with the resolution of problems in a basic service delivery environment.

She said a great deal of her time had been spent on constant interaction with a number of different departments relating to service delivery and following up on calls for a better community. However, Ravid said this should not be the case. Ravid said, “In a smartly run city, problems should be logged at free call centres and resolved in the required time frame without the councillor having to constantly intervene. After 14 years and nine months of serving the residents of Ward 73, I have decided to move on to other endeavours.”

Ravid said she is proud of the many achievements she made for the good of the community during this time and thanked those who recognised her hard work.

She also paid tribute to some of those ‘angels’ who volunteer on the various residents’ committees and continue to serve their suburbs with passion. Ravid encouraged the community to become active in their suburbs and to contact residents’ associations as she said they do an amazing job.

Many thanks from Ravid also go to the officials who have been accommodating under difficult circumstances, and to the various ward committee members for their contributions.

Ravid emphasised the importance of voting when the by-election date is announced. Normal voting procedure applies. Ravid said, “It is so important that the ward continues to be a strong ‘blue’ [DA] ward.

“I look forward to an active retirement and continue to be interested and involved in the future of our country.”
