Region B to get R99 million for road infrastructure

JOBURG – The Johannesburg Roads Agency is set to spend about R99 million in Region B on road infrastructure.

Region B covers the suburbs of Windsor, Blairgowrie, Bryanston, Emmarentia, Greenside, Hurlingham and Sandhurst, among others.

Mpho Kau, the entity’s acting managing director said R69 million would be set aside for capital expenditure, while R30 million would be invested in infrastructure maintenance.

“The work that we do in Region B is mainly road infrastructure maintenance, rather than road construction as such,” said Kau.

“We proactively attend to potentially problematic road surfaces before they become difficult and expensive to fix. On a daily basis, we carry out road infrastructure maintenance, including the maintenance of pavements and footways and of the storm water systems.”

Areas targeted in the budget include several repairs to the collapsed sections of the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit route in Auckland Park, repairs to the collapsed culverts on Surrey and Bond Roads in Ferndale, and along Barry Hertzog Road in Parktown. Road resurfacing and repairs to reinstate junction boxes along Lange Road in Florida Glen are also set to take place.
