Presidential Citation for retired engineer

WAVERLY - Rob Douglas, a retired engineer from Waverley has received a Presidential Citation from Toastmasters International for his role in the growth of the organisation in southern Africa.

Douglas served as district director in 2010 and 2011, kick-starting a five-year growth spurt in the non-profit organisation after 10 years of stagnation. Douglas, who has achieved Toastmasters’ highest award, the Distinguished Toastmaster, ended his successful career at a French oil company in senior management.

Douglas joined the Rosebank Toastmasters Club in 1996. “I only discovered Toastmasters at the age of 40,” said Douglas. He then went on to run Toastmasters International in southern Africa, overseeing an organisation of 2 500 people in nine countries.

Toastmasters International is an organisation focused on the development of communication and leadership skills. Through its network of clubs in which members learn by doing, Toastmasters has a unique and powerful approach to helping its members overcome challenges and develop their personal confidence and ability.
