HOUGHTON – It has been reported that the 24-year-old grandson of South Africa’s first post-apartheid President is seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder at a military medical facility in Centurion.

The man, who has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl, has also requested that he report to the Littleton police station as opposed to the station in Norwood, nearest to where he resides in Houghton.

He appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Courts on 25 August, where Magistrate Pieter du Plessis identified the suspect as Mbuso Mandela. He was granted bail of R7 000 and ordered to hand in his passport and all other travel documentation.

According to the Independent Online , the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) deny these allegations.

SANDF spokesperson Brigadier Xolani Mabanga stated on 28 August that only members of the force and their dependents, or senior government officials, could be treated at the facility.
