One suspect shot and injured in shootout with police

BEREA - One person was shot in a shooting on Tudhope Street in Berea at around 6pm on 28 August.

Update – 28 August: 7.25pm:

Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said at around 6.30pm, police were patrolling the area. At the corner of Tudhope and O’Reilly streets, the officers noticed four suspects acting suspiciously.

Zondo said that as the police officers approached them, the suspects started to shoot at the police. Police returned the fire and as a result, one suspect was shot.

The injured suspect was taken to hospital and is under police guard.

One firearm was recovered from the scene.

28 August, 6.49pm: 

Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo confirmed one person was shot, however further details on how the shooting unfolded and who was shot remain unclear at this time and police are investigating.
