Voices of the City – fashion fiend ready for a fix
JOBURG - City Buzz was, once again, on the prowl for interesting stories from interesting people in the city and we found a man who is so interesting that his identity could not be revealed – a superhero, perhaps?
City Buzz found Fashion Fiend in the bustling Maboneng area.
He looked too fashionable just to pass, so we approached the man and struck up a conversation.
“Who are you wearing and why so chic on a Tuesday afternoon,” City Buzz asked the man.
His answer was rather unexpected, but very interesting.
“I’m waiting for my dealer, actually.”
“Drug dealer? Do you smoke weed?”
“I smoke a lot of different things. Roc is one of my favourite’s because it’s undetectable.”
In utter shock, City Buzz pursued the conversation further in the hope of finding out more about the extra-curricular activities of the man.
“Why do you smoke these substances?”
“Are you serious? I’m joking. I don’t smoke things. Can you imagine? All the different smells would get on my clothes. I actually go to school at Wits. I’m studying to be an engineer, but I really, really like to come to Maboneng and see what’s happening and get fashion inspiration,” he said.
Relieved, City Buzz asked how his passion for fashion stemmed from such an analytical type of study.
“Engineering was really a means to an end. My parents forced me to study something, when what I really wanted to do was go straight into the fashion industry.”
“Are you almost finished with your degree?”
“I’ve got two more years, but when I’m done I think I’m still going to go into the fashion industry. My engineering degree just gives me something to fall back on now.”
“What is your fashion going to be called – so that we can keep an eye on it,” City Buzz inquired.
“I’m not sure about that yet,” said Fashion Fiend.
“It’s going to be something cool and edgy like GalXBoy.”
