Toy gun suspects arrested

PARKVIEW – Three suspects between the ages of 27 and 32 were recently arrested on Napier Road, Parktown, with a vehicle that had allegedly been stolen. A gun was also recovered within the vehicle, which turned out to be a toy gun.

The arrests were made on 20 August at 1pm after a suspicious VW Golf was spotted driving around the Westcliff area. The vehicle was spotted by police crime prevention members on routine patrol, who stopped the occupants and searched the vehicle.

“The search uncovered a toy gun,” confirmed Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, spokesperson for Parkview police.

“It was concealed among clothing items in a sports bag found in the vehicle.”

Ramovha said further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

“None of the occupants were able to account for ownership details upon request by the officers,” Ramovha added.

“The suspects were then arrested.”

They will appear at Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle as well as an illegal weapon.
