Check out Newtown’s upcoming developments

JOBURG - If you travel through the city daily, chances are you've probably seen the construction taking place near the taxi rank in Newtown, and at various locations around the rejuvenated precinct.

City Buzz is giving you the lowdown on what will come up in the near future, and we’re sure you’ll be just as excited about Newtown’s new developments.

After Newtown Junction reached completion, it was clear that development by The Atterbury Group was not over.

As with all the up-and-coming suburbs in and around the city, the main focus of the new developments will be fashion outlets, craft beer and artisan markets.

The plans for the precinct include the construction of a heritage restaurant and craft brewery called The Potato Shed; an artisan cocktail bar called the Gentlemen’s Arthouse; and a new market called Work Shop New Town – all of which will be open in November.

It was also announced that two Edwardian-style buildings are being designed. It was revealed that the design of the buildings play on the history and heritage of the areas in which they will be placed.

Newtown’s entire development will cost about R1.3 billion and will turn the artsy area into an even more culturally diverse space than it currently is.
