Parkview police women get treated

PARKTOWN - Parkview saps women got treated to lunch for Women's day.

The female police officers of Parkview Police Station were treated to a Women’s Day lunch at the Local Grill.

“Sometimes we may be forgotten and not acknowledged because of the kind of job we do,” said Kirsten Haddon, an officer of Parkview police.

“So today feels good because it shows we are remembered.”

Station commander Colonel Thembelule Kubone said it was the second time the restaurant had hosted them and she was really pleased, as it was the police’s culture to uplift the women in the police service.

“Today is about celebrating and showing appreciation to the women at the station who work extremely hard,” said Kubone.

“It is about empowering them and showing them that they are important.”

Llewy Mateza, co-owner of the restaurant, said the day was not about getting publicity, but it was simply about showing that they cared and appreciated the work that was done by the female police officers.

“The women work in a high-pressure environment every day, so it is nice to give them a day to unwind,” he said.

Another Parkview officer Mokopi Joyce said, “I feel so proud being a woman today. This is nice, us being taken out and honoured in such a way.”
