Klara Gottert: Father breaks his silence

WESTCLIFF – A 14-year-old girl from Westcliff who was reported missing on 11 August, was found dead after an apparent suicide.

UPDATE: 14 August 2015, 4pm – Klara Gottert’s father has opened up for the first time since his daughter’s death.

He spoke of the devastation being felt by the family, and promised that they would be reunited one day.

“We are all devastated by this tragic loss of our youngest child Klara. The link is broken but she will live on forever more in our hearts and minds until we ourselves transition into the next belief system plane to be reunited,“ said Dieter.

UPDATE: 14 August 2015, 12:30pm – Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs spokesperson for Honeydew police has confirmed that toxicology tests will be done on the body of Klara Gottert. Gottert jumped to her death from the roof of Northgate Shopping Centre.

“The detectives have requested that blood must be taken to send for testing,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs is yet to confirm how long it will take for the results to come back.

UPDATE: 13 August 2015, 4pm – Honeydew police spokesperson, Warrant officer Karen Jacobs has confirmed that following a long meeting with Klara’s parents this morning, the case is still being investigated as a suicide.

The investigation is not finalised as yet, but for now no foul play is suspected. The detectives are still in the process of taking statements and collecting evidence.

When asked about CCTV footage from the shopping mall, Jacobs said, “We are awaiting footage from the mall, however, detectives who visited the scene and viewed the footage on the night said that the footage was very dark.”

Jacobs concluded by saying, “For now the case is still being investigated and is very sensitive for the family, but we are in contact with them throughout the investigation.”

UPDATE: 12 August 2015, 10am –  Major Mack Mngomezulu, from the Gauteng Police confirmed that Klara’s body was found late last night at Northgate Shopping Centre. He said that the girl’s mother, Liesl, had reported her missing at the Parkview Police Station after she had not returned home from school.

“The girl was found at Entrance 4 at Northgate Shopping Centre. Paramedics were called to the scene and declared her dead,” said Mngomezulu.

He would not confirm whether the death was a suicide, stating only that she fell to her death. Klara’s mother has, however, confirmed to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette that her daughter committed suicide.

Initial report: 12 August 2015, 7:30am – Klara Göttert’s mother, Liesl, became very worried when her daughter didn’t come home after school on 11 August.

Family and friends then circulated a picture of the missing girl on social media, and the posts were quickly shared by many Joburg north residents.

It came to light on 12 August, however, that Göttert’s lifeless body had been found.

It is believed that she took her own life, however, circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this stage.

“There are no words to describe what our family is going through right now,” said Liesl (Göttert’s mother), evidently highly distraught. “My daughter took her own life…”

Messages of condolences have since poured in from all over the country.
