Rosebank Homeless Association needs your help

ROSEBANK - The Rosebank Homeless Association urges the community to help them help those in need.

The Rosebank Homeless Association (RHA) has made it their mission to help those in need.

This time, they are appealing to the community to lend a helping hand. “Any old clothes or shoes would be highly appreciated,” said Judith Briggs, chairperson of the association.

Donations can be dropped off either at Immaculata Shelter on Sturdee Avenue or placed in the community donation box at the Rosebank Mall, near the Pick n Pay. All the clothes collected will be distributed by the association to the Immaculata Shelter and to those in need.

“I would like to say a huge thanks to those who have already donated at the mall. The collection box was emptied on 31 July and four shopping trolleys were filled with donated goods. However, there is a need for men’s clothing and shoes,” added Briggs.

As an association, they do more than just collect donations. They are also focused on training the homeless in skills and creating jobs. They also aim to provide healthcare as well as facilitate access to pensions, grants and legal services. The organisation also wants to launch an awareness campaign that will benefit both to the homeless and the community.

Skills such as sewing, knitting, computer training, English workshops, literacy and office skills are provided to those who may need it.

They also have soup kitchens at various locations in the Rosebank area. Parktown North Methodist Church provides hot meals at 11.30am and food parcels Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8.30 and 11.30am. Immaculata Shelter provides hot meals at 10am Monday to Friday.

Health care is provided by Dr Ann Pryor on a Wednesday from 9am to 11.30am at the clinic on Lower Park Drive, Parkview.
