UPDATE: Cop killed after Jeppe shootout, 5 suspects arrested

JOBURG - It is believed that a police officer was shot and wounded earlier today.

UPDATE: 3:30pm – According to police five suspects have been arrested, three of which were shot and wounded and transported to hospital under police guard. The suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting of the police officer earlier today in Jeppestown.

According to SAPS, the officer sadly succumbed to his wounds after he was shot in the groin.

UPDATE: The Officer shot in Jeppestown on 31 July has died.

Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo from the South African Police Service said, “Two police officers were on a routine patrol while they noticed a suspicious looking vehicle.

One officer was shot in the groin and was transported to hospital. He later died.”

INITIAL REPORT: A police officer from Jeppe Police Station has been shot and wounded on the morning of 31 July and taken to hospital.

It is believed that he was shot at the Jeppe Men’s Hostel in central Joburg.

At this stage details are sketchy as to what happened.

According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyai of Jeppe police, the shooting took place on Hanau street in Jeppestown.

Munyai said, “The matter is currently still under investigation.”
