UPDATE: Grandad saves dog from burning Parktown North home

PARKTOWN NORTH - A home in Parktown North, on the corner of Sutherland and 4th avenues caught fire on the evening of 30 July.

UPDATE: 30 July, 9.05pm

The brave grandad who rescued Scottish terrier Campbell from a burning house earlier this evening has been identified as Will James.

James bravely entered the home to rescue the dog, which is now at  a local vet.

According to neighbours the fire has now been extinguished and fire-fighters have left the scene.

“Community involvement was amazing. The owner is in shock, but is alright” said one resident who preferred to remain unnamed.

The resident confirmed that the inside of the house was gutted by the fire.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Grandad rescues dog from burning house

According to Cherene Nel, whose parents live close to the burning home, fire-fighters are on the scene.

A proud Nel told the Gazette how her 70-year-old father bravely entered the home to save a dog.

“My 70-year-old dad just went inside, found their dog cowering in the kitchen and carried it out! What a hero,” said Nel.

The dog, an elderly Scottish terrier named Campbell, is now at a local vet.

Nel also stated that Cortac tactical officers had been particularly helpful on the scene.
