NEWTOWN – The annual, highly-anticipated South African Book Fair is coming up soon and this year promises to be a literal wonderland.

The fair is the biggest of its kind, so of course it attracts some of the biggest names in the business. With over 100 authors, writers, poets, publishers and playwrights, there’s a wealth of knowledge to dive into.

The programme is filled with goodies such as Lauren Beukes spilling the beans on her new Wonder Woman comic; Dr Eve exploring the latest threats to marriages and relationships in Seduced!; and 21 born-frees share their thoughts on what 21 years of democracy means to them in, plus much, much more.

There will also be poetry and script writing masterclasses, panel discussions, workshops and lectures, all involving leading writers, editors and publishers from around the country and the world, as well as the scoop on how to break into the writing and publishing industry.

Even the kids are invited as there will be a funky children’s zone packed with daily activities and adventures for the little ones. Famed storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe, will take the kids on a magical tour of African folktales and Jurassic Park will come to life in ‘Dem Bones, where the kids can listen to the best dino stories, dig for bones and meet a real paleontologist – to name a few.

It’s all happening from 31 July to 2 August at Turbine Hall, Johannesburg.

Ticket prices vary depending on the workshops.
