Businesswoman takes Wolford brand from Hyde Park to Africa

HYDE PARK – The woman who brought the Wolford brand to Hyde Park is now going to take it to the rest of Africa.

Businesswoman and fashionista, Catherine Trope, brought the international clothing brand to South Africa in 2007 and has a store in Hyde Park Corner shopping centre.

“I fell in love with the brand from a young age, but only really got to understand the quality and versatility of the fabrics and the amazing style the designers come up with once I became older,” said Trope.

She said the brand empowers women and represents them as multi-dimensional professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, wives and mothers simultaneously.

The brand also supports the local hospice on a regular basis, as well as the annual Life Ball in Vienna, which is one of the biggest HIV/Aids charity events in the world.

“I love the versatility of the brand,” added Trope. Women are devotees of Wolford pieces because they are timeless, and as a result of their quality, can be worn for many years.

Trope said the most fulfilling part about being a businesswoman is seeing sales consultants develop and master the skills required to be successful in their jobs.

“I feel extremely proud when they are complimented by our customers,” she added.

“It is also very satisfying when we are able to exceed customers’ expectations.”

Her biggest challenge in her profession is having time to do all the things she wants to do.

She advised aspiring businesswomen to be conservative and go slow. “Thinking big is good but it’s important not to get ahead of oneself,” said Trope.

“Be passionate and excited about what you do and remember good times will follow the tough ones.”
