Turbine Art Fair a huge success

JOBURG - The Turbine Art Fair not only opened its doors to a number of talented artists to showcase their art pieces, but also opened a world of possibility to the public and those aspiring to enter the art industry.

The fair was held at the Turbine Hall in the Newtown precinct near the busy Joburg CBD.

It was a place for art lovers and makers to interact, share experiences and find the meaning behind the various art pieces together.

The main focus of the exhibition was not only to showcase the art of the most famous and revered artists from around the country, but also to allow the fairly new and emerging ones to break into the industry by using the well-established event as a platform to be seen by the real art lovers of the city.

The fair aimed to eradicate the stigma that is attached to art – the stigma of being expensive and elitist – by keeping all prices under R30 000.

On display at the fair was art from a number of different artists from more than 40 leading art galleries in the country.

Quality, innovation and, most importantly, education, were some of the main points to address throughout the duration of the fair, and it is for this reason that there were a number of talks held over the fair weekend.

There were three kinds of talks held this year which provided a new way of dealing with the awareness of art. The first was an introduction to art for those who were interested in refining their knowledge of art making. The second was the workshops that were held that dealt with the business of art as the main topic of discussion. The third was an informal discussion which was the platform that allowed all in attendance to voice their questions and opinions on everything that they had seen in the art industry during the year.

All art that was not purchased was taken back to its respective gallery and is still available for purchase.
