French teen miraculously goes into remission from HIV

JOBURG - An 18-year-old French woman is in remission from HIV even though she has not taken antiretrovirals for 12 years.

According to a report by Sky News in the UK, doctors presented the woman’s case at a conference in Vancouver.

The young woman is believed to have been infected either at the end of her mother’s pregnancy or during childbirth.

She was administered a drug to prevent the virus from infecting her for a month after she was born but as soon as the medication was withdrawn she developed high levels of the virus.

Until the age of six, the woman was administered antiretroviral drugs, however her parents then decided to withdraw the treatment.

Years later French doctors were suprised to find that the teen is still in remission.
