Shine your light and brighten a life

ROSEBANK - Due to an overwhelming demand by the public, the Light the Night initiative comprising a nighttime walk has been postponed to 27 August.

The initiative, which was launched in June last year, aims to bring 5 000 community activists together to take to the streets of Rosebank. The walk will start at 6pm on Bath Avenue outside the Rosebank Mall, and those joining will be equipped with torches to light up the night all the way through the surrounding suburb to end up in Craddock Avenue.

The walk will end in a celebration at the well-known Rosebank Rooftop with several SHOUT ambassadors, local opinion leaders and the community attending the celebration.

SHOUT is a Trust founded by Danny Koppel, aka Danny K, and Kabelo Mabalane after Lucky Dube’s death in a bid to give South Africans a voice in the fight against crime. The walk is in aid of SHOUT for a Safer South Africa and funds raised will be used to build a library container in the Alexandra township.

Danny K commented, “Our mantra is, if we don’t educate, we will never eradicate the need to incarcerate.”

SHOUT has helped finance and build three libraries, in Limpopo Province, Mitchell’s Plain and Freedom Park Soweto, through the generosity of South Africans.

“The impact that this campaign has on the lives of the children and the community is immense and it allows for improvement all round in terms of their growth and social interaction,” he said.

“Nothing can be of more importance than to ensure that our children are given the best opportunity to live as productive South Africans in a country that is free of crime and corruption.”

R150 fee will be required from those joining the walk.
