Free clothes for the homeless

ROSEBANK- The homeless people of Rosebank had their shopping lists handy at a street store that was set up in the Crowne Plaza Hotel's parking lot on Mandela day.

Hot Dogs For The Homeless SA and Sisters For Change SA, in partnership with Crowne Plaza Hotel organised the street store.

Tlodi Modise, administrator of Hot Dogs For The Homeless SA said, “The initiative is for the common man on the street to be given clean clothes from individuals around Johannesburg.”

Hot Dogs For The Homeless SA is a non-profit organisation, that hosts monthly social charitable events, in order to raise awareness for those less fortunate within the community.

”Our projects’ aspirations are to bring like minded people together, to share the inspirational aim of giving in order to assist the underprivileged and to find a way as a community to reach out to the homeless in greater Johannesburg, ” Modise said.

The homeless who came to the street store, were given an opportunity to pick three items of clothing of their choice with help from a Hot Dogs For The Homeless SA personal assistant.

When they were done with their shopping, they received a hot dog and a drink.

“The street store initiative was a success and we fed and clothed 400 homeless people, it was a lovely Mandela Day,” Modise said.

Werner van Niekerk, Executive House Keeper of Crowne Plaza Hotel said, “It was lovely and it felt good to give back to the community.”
