Nelson Mandela star not yet inducted on the Walk of the Stars

ROSEBANK - On the evening of 15 July, a star for Nelson Mandela was supposed to have been placed as the first star on South Africa's own Afri-Global Walk of Stars, but the star was not placed after a truck containing the star was in an accident on the way to the unveiling ceremony.

The Afri-Global Walk of Stars was launched by the African Global Heritage Foundation and is meant to be a walk of fame attraction that is embedded on the pavements of Rosebank. It will be placed along the famed Cradock Avenue and will be a first on the continent.
The  Nelson Mandela star will still be the first star to be placed on the Walk of the Stars, however it will only be placed in September at the official opening of the Walk of the Stars.
While Graca Machel was listed as a keynote speaker at the unveiling ceremony, she did not attend as, according to chief associate producer of the Afri-Global Walk of Stars Tsietsi Ramotsoela, she was busy with another event called Trek4Mandela.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura was in attendance at the start of the evening but left before the proceedings got underway. Ramotsoela explained that Makhura was only there to embrace the event with he presence but was not due to speak.
Executive producer  of the Afri-Global Walk of Stars Phineas Tichana,  paid tribute to the city fathers and various departments, directorates and agencies of the city for their support. “The Walk of the Stars is dedicated to Nelson Mandela, just like his legacy this walk will stay behind long after you and I have gone,” he said.
