Do you know your station commander?

ROSEBANK – Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender wants the community of Rosebank to know him and his vision for the station that serves them.

Taking the time to get to know your local police station and the police officials who work there could give you a better understanding of how the police force operates.

Rosebank Police Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender is a strong believer in working together with the community to make the station number one in the province.

“I want the community to feel safe and welcome as soon as they enter the station,” said Govender.

He was appointed as station commander on 13 May 2013 after working at the Hillbrow Police Station for 24 years. This year, however, marks 30 years of service in the police force.

“I am a no-nonsense person when it comes to criminals and serving my community,” said Govender.

When asked why he pursued a career in the police force, he smiled and said, “In my fifth year in the police, I was [approached by someone] to work for him. I, however, turned him down even though it was five times the salary I was getting at the time – I have a passion for the police.”

He explained how his father had inspired him to become an officer because of the honest lifestyle he led. However, Govender said it was in Grade 11 that he knew that becoming a police officer was for him. “A public relations person came to my school and spoke to us about the police and what they do, that’s when I knew that that was where I wanted to be.”

His motto is: One can have everything but have nothing, but one can have nothing and have everything in life. This is because he believes that people do not need a lot of things to be happy.

Govender had nothing but praise for the Rosebank community and he thanked them for their involvement with the police. He did, however, urge them to interact more with the local Community Policing Forum.
