Fugitive rearrested after Houdini-like escape

PARKHURST- After eight months on the run, a wanted fugitive is finally behind bars after he was arrested last week.

On 12 July last year, Gilbert Vusi Msibi, also known as Jabu Sithole allegedly broke into a house in Parkhurst and severely assaulted an 82-year-old pensioner using a garden spade before robbing her of various items and leaving her for dead. Msibi allegedly then fled in a getaway vehicle, but was eventually arrested in Emmarentia. He then escaped from correctional service custody on 28 August last year.

He was rearrested by a national task team assigned to the tracking of wanted suspects.
