BREAKING NEWS: Police foil hijacking of tobacco delivery vehicle

YEOVILLE - Six suspects have been arrested for hijacking a British American Tobacco vehicle that was delivering cigarettes.

Six suspects have been arrested for hijacking a British American Tobacco vehicle that was delivering cigarettes in Newtown.

The police received information about suspects hijacking the vehicle that was delivering the cigarettes. Police pounced on the suspects who were busy offloading the cigarettes at the corner of Arthur and Mons Streets in Yeoville.

Two vehicles were recovered from the scene, a Toyota Quantum and a Toyota Corolla.

According to Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police station, the six suspects have been arrested in connection with hijacking the British American Tobacco vehicle.

Ntsiki Mackay-Anderson said, “I heard someone saying that what they should be focusing on is bringing down the shacks in the country. They are the real statues of apartheid.”

Ann Chapman said,”It’s horrific and unnecessary. Cecil John Rhodes is part of our history.”

Helena Mitchell said,”It is a good idea that the statues should be put somewhere and not destroyed.”

Susan Sale said,”I have mixed feelings; there was lots wrong with him, but he donated a lot of money to education. I think the statue can be taken down, but shouldn’t be destroyed. Don”t erase history!”

Daniel Hutchinson said,”Obviously Rhodes is like a God of western civilisation in Africa and has been worshiped for far too long.”

Julius Kgori said, “I don’t like the criteria they are using to destroy the statues.”
