New home for Stroke Aid Society

SANDRINGHAM - The Stroke Aid Society, a support group for stroke survivors and their families, settled into their new home at Jabula Recreational Centre in Sandringham on 23 June.

The society was previously based at the Paterson Park Recreation Centre in Norwood.

The public relations officer and office manager of the Stoke Aid Society, Sandra Colombick said, “We are so very grateful to Jabula Recreation Centre for the time and effort the management gave us in preparing a suitable venue.”

According to Colombick, the reason for the move was due to upgrades that are set to take place at Paterson Park in the near future.

“Our mission at Stroke Aid is to encourage social interaction and promote independence and self-confidence in stroke sufferers and their families. There are a variety of therapies and activities available, as well as qualified people to give advice. The therapists who offer their services are a speech therapist; a physiotherapist, who also runs an exercise class and sees individual members in the early morning; occupational therapists; and a social worker, who offers counselling and advice about community resources and who holds discussion groups for families and caregivers,” added Colombick.
