Hyde Park School’s knitting challenge continues

HYDE PARK - WITH Nelson Mandela Day fast approaching on 18 July, Hyde Park High School pupils and staff got their fingers working and knitting skills out as they called on local residents to give donations for 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

Spokesperson for the school Avril Wright said, “Hyde Park High challenges other schools to get involved with this worthy project and thereby make a difference in a less-fortunate person’s life. Even if you can’t knit or crochet, they have drop-off points across the country for wool donations.”

In addition, the pupils collected a generous number of baby blankets and baby clothes which will be given to the maternity section of the Alexandra Health Centre.

Wright added, “These young mothers have received a donation from the school annually for several years and they are extremely grateful for our contributions.

“The school’s staff as well as pupils and parents will continue to knit and crotchet blankets and these will be distributed to the charities that the school supports. Any wool donations would be welcome and can be dropped off at the school office at the beginning of the third term.”
