Fake cops rob wife of Deputy President of Zimbabwe

PARKTOWN - ACCORDING to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lunga Dlamini, members of the Provincial Investigating Team are investigating the armed robbery case involving four men posing as police officers.

The men allegedly robbed Laurinda Mphoko, wife of the Deputy President of Zimbabwe Phelekezela Mphoko, and her driver while they were travelling near the corner of Barry Hertzog and Empire roads in Parktown on 21 June.

“The driver was confronted by an unknown number of suspects driving a white Hyundai,” said Dlamini. “The suspects pulled them over and showed them what looked like a police appointment document, and threatened them with a knife demanding their personal belongings.

“They robbed them of a ruby and diamond ring, bangles, USD 1 000 [R12 000], a Cartier watch and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone. The estimated value of the stolen goods was about R1 million. No arrests have been made.”
