FOLLOWING taxi shootings on William Nicol Drive and at the Bree Street taxi rank which left two people dead, the police are continuing the search for two men who fled a roadblock in Doornfontein on 20 June.
According to police, they were conducting a routine stop and search when the driver of a taxi allegedly offered a bribe to officers to prevent them searching the vehicle.
This made the police suspicious, and during further investigation two men fled the scene leaving behind weapons that are believed to be linked to the recent taxi violence.
“The two jumped out of the [taxi] and they ran away,” said Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo.
Police arrested the driver and a passenger, who face charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and are expected to appear in court on 22 June.
