Suspect with dagga and illegal cigarettes arrested

PARKVIEW - According to Parkview police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, on 16 June just before 1pm, the Parkview police arrested a 34-year-old suspect for possession of dagga as well as illegal cigarettes with an estimated street value of over R10 000.

The Parkview police were patrolling the area when they noticed a male suspect carrying a sports bag at the corners of Jan Smuts Avenue and Lower Park Drive in Parkview. Ramovha said the officers who apprehended the man, said he had seemed nervous, which raised their suspicions. The police then approached and searched him as well as his bag, discovering a black refuse bag containing dagga and various boxes of illegal cigarettes.

The suspect was then arrested and charged with possession and dealing in dagga, as well as illegal cigarettes. He will appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.

Ward 90 counsellor, Anthony Still, said the community should not buy illegal drugs or cigarettes because it contributes to the high crime rate.

According to him the police are doing a good job and lawbreakers will be arrested.
