The American citizen recently reported receiving a fried rat in his KFC meal, and also claimed to have bitten into the piece of food which, he said, did not taste like chicken. He then claimed that an investigation was undertaken to prove that is was indeed a rat.
KFC Africa caught wind of the story and has since issued a formal response to the claim and addressed their serving standards – which some may find questionable after the saga of the chicken pieces allegedly being washed on the floor behind their Braamfontein outlet.
“KFC takes food safety extremely seriously, and the KFC team in the United States has made various attempts to contact the customer, but he is refusing to talk to them directly or through an attorney,” managing director of KFC Africa, Doug Sham responded.

Sham added that the customer had refused to talk to KFC and had only posted a picture of one angle of the food – the angle that looked suspiciously like a rat. From another angle, it is alleged that it can be seen that the food is “a piece of hand-breaded white meat chicken”.
KFC also claimed to have extended an invitation to the customer to send the product to an independent laboratory to evaluate it but had received no response from the disgruntled customer.
“The fact that he refuses to allow anyone to see the product, KFC US is left to believe that he intended to deceive the public with this hoax,” said Sham.
