Prasa boss’ questionable house deal OR Railway boss house deal scandal

JOBURG - An investigation by Rapport newspaper stated that railways boss Lucky Montana has been linked through a questionable property sale to a company that bagged a multi-billion rand tender from the government parastatal he heads.

Montana, who heads the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa), sold his home in upmarket Parkwood last year for R6.8 million cash to a Pretoria attorney Riaan van der Walt, the newspaper stated.

This is almost R3 million more than the average house price in the area. The City of Johannesburg has valued the house 10 months before the sale – it was sold for R3.4 million more than the value, the newspaper alleged.

Rapport added that Van der Walt turned out to be the lawyer for Siyangena Technologies, a security company that won a tender for an integrated station-access management system from Prasa a few months after the property transaction took place.

The newspaper alleged that Siyangena Technologies won the tender, which could see it rake in some R3 billion from Prasa for providing CCTV cameras and other security-related products and services at train stations across South Africa – amidst widespread criticism among rival bidders that the tender process was tweaked to favour Ferreira’s company.
