Get involved in your community and work hand-in-hand with police

PARKVIEW - THE Parkview Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently held its annual general meeting (AGM) on 11 June at the Marks Park Sports Club.

Speaking at the event, chair of the Parkview forum, Geoff Klass, stressed the importance of community participation.

“We have noticed over the last five years that community support for the CPF has dropped dramatically. I would like to see each residents’ association have a permanent representative on the community safety forum,” Klass said.

Despite the disappointing involvement from community members, Klass thanked the current committee for their continued support over the last year and for their input and attendance.

In terms of crime, acting Station Commander of Parkview Police Station, Colonel Samuel Mohlanga, advised that property- and motor vehicle-related crimes had increased in the Parkview Police Station precinct.

Mohlanga explained that Parkview police had seen an increase in the number of cars being either stolen or broken into when they were left parked on the street overnight.

Mohlanga added that another concern was that a majority of houses that reported robberies had their alarm systems disarmed, which was also becoming a concern.

Mohlanga also added that there was a trend in the last few robberies, explaining that many robberies included victims being followed.

Guest speaker, Judge Johann Kriegler, ended the evening with an insightful and interesting talk on the National Prosecuting Authority.
