UPDATE: A raw deal at Wimpy

FOURWAYS – A CUSTOMER at Wimpy in Montecasino was horrified to discover her chicken schnitzel was raw after she had already taken two bites.

UPDATE: 15 June 2015, 3:15pm – Owner of Wimpy branch in Montecasino responds:

“I can confirm and based on the photos provided, the Crumbed chicken provided to Mrs Renay Marahajh was in fact undercooked. I take full responsibility for this as I am the owner of the Wimpy in Monte Casino. I do, however not feel that it was due to negligence. It was an honest mistake,” Kumaran Govender, owner of the Wimpy branch stated.

He admitted that his managers initial response was not adequate, however one of the other managers stepped in and resolved the situation amicably.

Govender continued to say that he offered Mrs Maharajh a replacement meal, which she did not accept. “However subsequent to me concluding my telephonic conversation with her, my manager offered her a replacement meal and this was accepted. We provided Mrs Renay Maharajh with lamb chops, chicken wings and cold drinks. None of which were charged for.”

He stated that the franchisor had been informed about the incident and that an operations team is being sent in to review the cooking procedures to ensure that all the staff are adhering to the correct standards. “Based on my own investigation, it appears that the temperature of my dedicated fryer in which we cook our crumbed chicken was set too high and this caused the chicken to cook fast on the outside and failed to thoroughly cook the middle part of the chicken. Personally from my side, I have taken the necessary measures to ensure that this does not happen again.”

Both my staff and I pride ourselves in what we do and feel that this was an honest mistake which we dealt with in store. I again wish to use this platform to apologise to Mrs Renay Marahajh for the incident and we will certainly look forward to ensure that this does not happen again. Our reputation and the Wimpy Brands reputation is of upmost importance to me as this is my livelihood.”
