Nomads & co. is the brainchild of co-owners Lizette Watts and Donna Peters, two freelance workers who struggled to find the perfect space to get work done. So they made one.
“Working from home can be very isolating, so we wanted a space that was both inspiring and that could aid productivity,” said Watts.
And what a space it is. The space is completely kitted out with a private meeting room, an informal group room, locker facilities, a library, lounge and kitchen, and even spaces for those who need quiet and those who need a social element.
All you have to do is pay a minimal fee and you’ve got a place to work, coffee from Craft of Coffee, food from The Bowery and super-quick Wi-Fi.
It’s simple, it’s elegant, it’s beautiful. And the idea is taking off.
Watts explained that in Joburg there’s something called hot-desking. Which basically sounds like what everyone does every day. Sit at a desk, work all day and then go home. Nomads & co. is trying to break that trend. “We’re all about networking and having proximity, and being stimulated by people sitting next to you,” she said.
In fact, this place is so ahead of the game they even have their own transport system. They’ve partnered up with Green Cycles.
“I’ve just felt that the synergy we’re building together is perfect,” said Noel O’Regan, owner of Green Cycles.
“Two new businesses, both local, and it made perfect sense to me to get involved with new companies in the Parks and offer an additional service.”
Green Cycles are nifty little electric bicycles that residents in Parkhurst can use to zip around. The idea is to pick up a bike, use it and drop it off at your own leisure. And the best part is … it’s got a throttle because ‘Johannesburg’s hilly’, as O’Regan so aptly said. These are great for the individual who would love to get on a bike, love to get into cycling, but just doesn’t believe they are fit enough.
