The Max Ordman Deaf Association merges with Rand Aid Association

JOBURG - THE Max Ordman Deaf Association recently merged with Rand Aid Association, the 112-year-old non-profit organisation based in Lyndhurst.

The merger agreement was signed on 3 June by Nico Beaurain, vice chairman of the Max Ordman and Rae Brown, the CEO of Rand Aid.

Beaurain said, “The residents of the Colonel Rowland Home are not in a financial position to fully fund the organisation and, as a result, we started to explore the possibility of a merger between the two organisations.”

Brown said, “Rand Aid will now manage the Colonel Rowland Home on its present premises while a new block is built at Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre in Lombardy East. The building will be purpose-built to house 30 deaf and deaf-blind elderly.”

The Max Ordman Deaf Association was first established in 1926 as a welfare organisation for the deaf. It currently operates the Colonel Rowland Home for the Deaf and Deaf-blind in Bedfordview.

“We are excited at the opportunity we have been given to extend our care to more vulnerable members of our community and hope that The Max Ordman Home thrives alongside Thembalami,” added Brown.
