Shootout in Joburg CBD, 2 killed

JOHANNESBURG- A SHOOTOUT occurred at the corner of Jeppe and Joubert streets in the Joburg CBD on the evening of 9 June at around 7.30pm, which left two dead and another in critical condition in hospital.

Allegedly five unknown males opened fire randomly outside the Spaza shop leaving the community baffled as to why the incident took place.

According to a press release by Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini of the South African Police Service, the suspects allegedly opened fire randomly outside the Spaza shop and fatally wounded a passer-by and a security guard, a woman who was also passing by was shot and wounded.  A security guard’s firearm was also taken by the suspects.  Nothing was taken from the spaza shop.

Lieutenant Colonel Dlamini said, “We appeal to anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest or identification of the four suspects to call 08600 10 111 or SMS Crime Line 32211 or alternatively contact the nearest police station.”
